Breakfast Seminar, “Private Equity Investment in Africa”, co-organised with Acorus Capital was held on 15 December. HKIAC Secretary General, Sarah Grimmer opened the event. Panellists included Maxine Barnett, Founder and CEO at Acorus Capital, Jakob Ragnwaldh, Partner at Mannheimer Swartling, Romesh Weemantry, Foreign Legal Consultant at Clifford Chance and Nneka Chike Obi, Principal at Acorus Capital.
Maxine Barnett explained Acorus advisory services for investing in Africa. Nneka Chike Obi gave some insights about opportunities for investing in Nigeria including technology and manufacturing industries. Romesh Weeramantry and Jakob Ragnwald spoke on legal and investment protection through BITs. Distinguished attendees raised questions related to the enforcement of arbitral awards, the scope of the “right to regulate” in African countries as well as the differences between investing in English-speaking and French-Speaking African countries.
