Authentication Service for Arbitral Awards
A party seeking to enforce an arbitral award may be required under Article IV(1) of the UN Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, New York 1958 (New York Convention) or the Hong Kong Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609) to tender a "duly authenticated original award or a duly certified copy" thereof to the enforcing court.
A party may request HKIAC to authenticate an arbitral award in an (i) HKIAC administered arbitration; or (ii) ad hoc arbitration in which HKIAC provided appointing authority services or other administrative support, for example, fund-holding services.
For authenticating an arbitral award made in an ad hoc arbitration, HKIAC charges HK$5,000 per request and may require the requesting party to submit an original of the arbitral award and other information before it can accept the request.
HKIAC does not charge any fee for authenticating an arbitral award made in an HKIAC administered arbitration.
