HKIAC is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Council, Cristián Conejero (Partner at Cuatrecasas) and Ernest Yang (Partner at DLA Piper) in March 2024.
Cristián Conejero is a Partner at Cuatrecasas and Head of its International Arbitration practice. He advises leading companies on domestic and international arbitration, covering commercial and investment arbitration. He is acknowledged in Chile and Latin America as a leading arbitration lawyer, with particular expertise in Construction and Energy disputes. He has been a professor at the law school of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile for several years and is a guest lecturer at various other leading universities.
Cristián says, “I am delighted to become a member of HKIAC Council and join the ranks of a stellar group of arbitration practitioners and a premier arbitral institution with a long standing tradition in international arbitration. With the increasing trade and investment between Asian and Latin American parties, HKIAC can play a significant role in administering disputes involving parties from these regions. I look forward to help advancing that goal”.
Ernest Yang is a Partner at DLA Piper and co-head of the International Arbitration practice in Asia Pacific. Ernest is qualified to practise law in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of the PRC, and is also a qualified Solicitor Advocate in England and Wales. Ernest is experienced in handling international disputes covering areas such as sale of goods or trade and commodities, joint ventures, energy and offshore projects, international investment and technology.
On his appointment, Ernest says, “As someone born and raised in Hong Kong and proud to call the city his home, it is a true honour to serve on the HKIAC Council and use the many avenues at my disposal to highlight the innovative and exceptional qualities which allow Hong Kong to continually excel as a leading global centre of international arbitration.”

The HKIAC Council is HKIAC’s principal governing body which advises the Secretariat on the strategies and policy direction of HKIAC. With the addition of the new Council Members, the HKIAC Council is presently composed of 30 members who are senior practitioners, in-house counsel, academics, arbitrators, judges and business professionals.
