ICCA HONG KONG 2024 BREAKS ATTENDANCE RECORDS, AS WORLD'S LARGEST INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION CONGRESS BEGINS

Hong Kong, 6 May 2024

The XXVIth Congress of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) has opened in Hong Kong.

The Congress has attracted more than 1,400 delegates from over 70 jurisdictions, making it the most well-attended ICCA Congress ever.

The official programme is supplemented by more than 50 side events and meetings, amplifying the Congress' reach and value to attendees.

Host Committee Co-Chair Neil Kaplan CBE KC SBS said: "We are delighted to welcome the international arbitration community to Hong Kong, and to have attracted those from so many different backgrounds and locations. Hong Kong has been at the cutting edge of arbitration law reform and innovation since the early 1980s. The success of ICCA 2024 shows that the city's arbitration scene is thriving and will continue to do so in the years to come."

Host Committee Co-Chair Justin D'Agostino MH said: "ICCA 2024 represents every aspect of arbitration - arbitrators, advocates, governments, judges, academics, experts, corporates and students, blending a wealth of experience with the future leaders of our profession. This is the largest gathering of professionals in Hong Kong for many years, and its success is due to the tireless efforts of the Congress teams at HKIAC and ICCA and our many generous supporters and sponsors. The Congress programme is unique, addressing the human factor in arbitration – essential as the profession responds to rapid technological and economic changes."

Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) Joanne Lau said: "We are grateful to everyone who is participating in this Congress, many of whom have travelled a long way and have taken time out of their busy schedules to attend.  We hope everyone can experience and enjoy all that Hong Kong has to offer. At this important time, HKIAC restates its commitment to remaining at the forefront of arbitral innovation and efficiency."

HKIAC and the Host Committee thank ICCA for selecting Hong Kong as the host back in 2018, and the Hong Kong Government through the Department of Justice for its significant support and assistance in the organisation and promotion of the Congress.  HKIAC is also grateful to the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and ICCA Hong Kong 2024’s sponsors (listed below in alphabetical order):
