The 2013 HKIAC Administered Arbitration 50 Questions & Answers – Now Available
17 November 2014
The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) is pleased to announce the publication of the 2013 HKIAC Administered Arbitration 50 Questions & Answers (“50 Q&A”). This will serve as an excellent guideline for users who wish to familiarize themselves with the 2013 HKIAC Administered Arbitration Rules (“Rules”).
Nominated by Global Arbitration Review (GAR) as one of the best developments in 2013, the Rules are widely regarded as one of the world’s leading arbitration rules and have been welcomed by many users, practitioners and arbitrators worldwide. The growing interest in the Rules is evidenced by the increasing number of inquiries received by HKIAC in relation thereto. As part of HKIAC’s continued efforts to better serve its users, HKIAC has put together the 50 most frequently asked questions with practical answers to them.
The 50 Q&A addresses questions concerning various aspects of HKIAC administered arbitration, including the scope of the Rules, commencement of arbitration, emergency arbitrator procedures, constitution of and challenges to the arbitral tribunal, expedited procedures, as well as joinder and consolidation. It is intended to serve as a supplement to the 100 Q&A, which focuses more broadly on questions relating to arbitration in Hong Kong.
The 100 Q&A and 50 Q&A are intended to provide general guidance on arbitration in Hong Kong and the conduct of HKIAC arbitration respectively. Parties are not advised to rely solely on these Q&As in conducting arbitral proceedings or seeking decisions from the arbitral tribunal or HKIAC.
